Does a salon need a website in 2026? The numbers that settle it

Nine times out of ten, clients search for a salon on their phone. We show, with numbers, how many bookings a salon loses without a website - and what to do about it.

Imagine someone just moved to your town and needs a hairdresser. What do they do? They type "hairdresser" plus their district or city into Google. They get a map, three or four highlighted results, ratings, photos - and within seconds they decide who to click. If your salon is missing from that picture, or shows up as an empty listing with no website, the decision gets made without you.

This isn't theory. The vast majority of local searches happen on mobile, and beauty-industry searches almost always carry immediate booking intent: someone searching "gel nails" or "balayage" in their city isn't browsing - they want an appointment. The only question is whether they book with you or with a competitor.

How much are you actually losing?

Let's run the numbers for an average salon. If just 3 people a day search for your services in your area, that's roughly 90 potential clients a month. If, without a website, you lose only 10% of them - a very conservative estimate - that's 9 missed clients a month. At an average ticket of €30, that's €270 a month, over €3,200 a year. A good website costs a fraction of that.

💡Fully completed Google Business Profiles get on average 7x more clicks than incomplete ones - and the website link is one of the most important fields Google looks at.

"But I have a Facebook page!"

This is the most common objection, and it's understandable - Facebook is free and familiar. But a Facebook page ranks poorly in Google results, the algorithm decides who sees your posts, and for a new client it's opaque: no proper price list, no structured service menu, and booking means sending a message and waiting for a reply.

Your own website, by contrast, is yours. It doesn't depend on a platform's rules, doesn't vanish with an algorithm change, and shows exactly what you want it to: your prices, your work, your team, and a booking button that works around the clock.

What does a client expect in 2026?

Client expectations have changed radically in recent years. Three-quarters of 18-40 year olds actively dislike phoning a new salon - they'd rather click through to a place where they can book instantly. Here's what a new client looks for before trusting you:

  • A transparent price list - no surprises
  • Real photos of your work and your salon
  • Online booking, with no phone call needed
  • Recent Google reviews
  • Clear address, opening hours and directions

If any of these are missing, question marks appear in the client's mind - and question marks send them to the competition.

A website builds trust before you ever meet

Beauty services are a trust business: the client puts their hair, skin or nails in your hands. And the first impression is now almost always made online. A clean, fast, mobile-friendly website says: this salon takes itself seriously, there's a system here. A missing or outdated online presence suggests exactly the opposite - even if your actual work is excellent.

Less admin, more free time

A website isn't just a client magnet - it gives you time back. When your price list, FAQ and booking are all available online, the volume of "how much is it?" and "when are you free?" messages and calls drops dramatically. You don't run to the phone mid-treatment, and you don't spend your evenings answering messages.

💡A significant share of bookings arrive outside working hours - evenings and weekends. With a phone-only system, you lose that slice automatically.

When is the right time to start?

The short answer: as soon as possible. Every month without a website means lost bookings - and Google rankings take time to build, so the earlier your site goes live, the sooner it starts working for you. You don't need a big, complicated site: a well-built one-page website with a price list, gallery and booking button already does everything a salon needs.
